Does Your Religion Feel Good?
Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 6:00PM Speaker: Toby Soecthing
Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:6-8
INTRODUCTION:
- Do you recommend your religion to others?
- Surely, God wants us to feel good about our religion!
- Sadly, some folks do not feel good about their religion, and it shows!
- You can change many things in life, but the most changeable, yet most difficult to change = ourselves!
DISCUSSION: CONSIDER --
I. GOD’S DESIGN AND DESIRE REGARDING RELIGION.
- God does not desire so much that we do religious things, but rather God desires that in our religion, we do the right things, in the right manner! (cf. Mt. 6:1-7; Mt. 15:7-9).
- God wants my religion to feel good (cf. Amos 5:21-22).
II. PAUL (FORMERLY SAUL) PROVIDES A BIBLE EXAMPLE OF EXACTLY “HOW” WE CAN FEEL GOOD ABOUT OUR RELIGION (CF. Acts 8,9; 2 Tim. 4:6-8).
- You cannot feel good when you are ignorant of truth.
- When sin is unresolved we cannot feel good!
- A person cannot feel good when he knows he has not fully submitted his will to the will of God (cf. Acts 9:5, 6).
- It is hard to feel good about a religion that cost you nothing (cf. Lk. 14:28-30; Mt. 19:16-22).
Conclusion: Feeling good about your religion, is not the ultimate standard for determining the purity or truthfulness of your religion, but it is not wrong to feel good while doing exactly what the Bible commands.
