A Christian's Safety and Security

Speaker: Toby Soechting

Scripture: 1 John 1:5-10

Introduction:

1.    Which of the following statements describes you?

  • I am going to heaven!
  • I am going to hell!
  • I do not know whether I am going to heaven or to hell!

2.    Were you saved ten minutes after your baptism?  If you can answer yes ten minutes later, why not ten years?

DISCUSSION:  PLEASE CONSIDER –

I.     GOD’S DESIRE IS THAT I DO NOT SIN (1 Jn. 2:1-3; 1 Eph. 4:17-18; Gal. 6:1; Heb. 2:1; 1 Pet. 5:8).

II.    THE BIBLE PICTURES A CHRISTIANS AS HAVING A SPECIAL SPIRITUAL RELATIONSHIP TO JESUS (Rom. 8:1; John 10:27,28; 2 Peter 1:5-10).

III.   THE BIBLE PICTURES THE PERSON WHO IS “IN CHRIST” AS BEING SECURE. (1 John 1:7; 1 Jn. 5:13; Rom. 6:16-18).

IV.   A CHRISTIAN’S SECURITY  DEPENDS FAR MORE UPON GOD’S GRACE THAN UPON THE CHRISTIAN’S  ABILITY TO AVOID SIN  (Rom. 3:23; 1 Jn. 1:10; Heb. 11:6; Phil. 3:14-16).

Conclusion:  To doubt one’s salvation, is to doubt the promises of God.  We can know we are saved, when we walk in the light, and if we are not, then we can know we are lost.
