My Reflection

Speaker: Toby Soechting

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 3:7-18

Introduction:

  1. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Cor. 3:18 NIV).
  2. How well do I reflect the reverence and respect that God deserves (cf. Heb. 12:9; Psa. 89:7).

DISCUSSION:  DO I REFLECT REVERENCE AND RESPECT TOWARDS

I.          GOD HIMSELF.

  1. A primary avenue to express reverence for God is that of worship (Jn. 4:24).
  2. Do I treat God’s name in a common and disrespectful manner (cf. Ex. 20:7; Psa. 111:9; Psa. 86:12; Rev. 15:4)?
  3. Is God the centerpiece of my home (cf. Psa. 127:1; Deut. 6:4-9).

II.        GOD’S WORD (Psa. 19:10).

  1. We show our respect by obeying the gospel.
  2. We show respect by accepting the Bible as completely inspired book (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
  3. Respect is reflected when I study God’s word (Psa. 119:130).
  4. Respect is show when we are united by God’s word instead of being divided (cf. Jn. 17:17; 1 Cor. 1:10).

III.       GOD’S SON.

  1. Respect is reflected for Jesus when I have high regard for His words (Jn. 12:48; 14:15).
  2. If I respect Jesus I will desire to be a Christian (cf. Acts 11:26).

IV.       GOD’S PEOPLE.

  1. Do I respect and love the church like Jesus does (Eph. 5:25)?
  2. Do I show greater respect for my church family than I show for my physical family (cf. Lk. 14:26)?

Conclusion:  Do the actions, attitudes, and emphasis of my life reflect the greatest reverence and respect for God, or is it time to change?
